- Amiga Forever "First Demos" Disk - Reference
-
- This disk contains some of the original demos which contributed to
- making the Amiga famous. Many of these can also be seen in the Gallery
- and Videos sections of Amiga Forever, e.g. in the Launch of Amiga video
- and on the Byte Magazine digital reprint (both items are included on the
- CD-ROM Edition of Amiga Forever).
-
- Some of these demos specialize in exhibiting graphical capabilities of
- the Amiga, others focus on the audio part, while others feature a
- combination of Amiga multimedia functionality.
-
- The following sections explain how to launch, use and terminate the
- demos. Where a certain procedure requires the use of the Left Amiga key,
- remember that on a PC keyboard you can use the Left Windows key, or the
- Insert key.
-
-
- Starting the Demos
-
- All demos can be started with a double-click on their icon. Some of the
- demos which run in their own window on the Workbench screen can be
- resized by dragging the bottom right corner of the window.
-
- The Boing demo opens its screen in the background (i.e. invisible, at
- first), so that it is necessary to either drag the Workbench screen
- down, or send it to the back (e.g. with Left Amiga+M) to make the new
- screen visible. Click on the Boing screen to start or pause the ball.
- The mouse pointer is reduced to a single pixel during the demo, so it is
- barely visible. Please note that the Boing demo does not free all
- resources after it terminates, and it may cause other demos to crash if
- they are run after Boing.
-
- The Juggler demo takes a few seconds to pre-load the animation frames,
- after which you can press any key to start, and keys 0 to 9 to change
- the speed (0 = fastest).
-
-
- Closing the Demos
-
- The demos tend to differ in how they can be terminated.
-
- Programs which open a window on the Workbench screen can be closed with
- the window close gadget (top left of the program window).
-
- The full screen programs include the Boing demo and the H.A.M.
- (Hold-and-Modify screen mode) demo, which can be closed by clicking at
- the top left of their screen. If the mouse pointer is invisible just
- move the mouse a bit towards the top left and then click the left
- button.
-
- Robo-City, Fields and Molly bring their screen to the front, but also
- open a small window (with its close button) on the Workbench, so that
- you can press Left Amiga+N to bring the Workbench to the front (the demo
- keeps running in the background screen), and then close their Workbench
- window to terminate the program.
-
- The Juggler demo is terminated by pressing the Esc key.
